How to Deploy Insightful Browser Extension via Intune

The method for deploying Insightful browser extension for Chrome & Edge browsers using Microsoft Intune described in this article ensures that the extension is automatically installed on company-managed devices without user intervention.

Follow the step-by-step instructions below to ensure that the needed users receive necessary tools without manual installation.

Prerequisites

Insightful Extension supports only Chrome and Edge browsers, if you wish to install the extension on only one browser, you can skip one of the steps related to that browser.

Before deploying extensions, ensure you meet the following requirements:

  • Microsoft Intune Admin access.

  • Google Chrome and/or Edge are installed on the targeted managed devices.

  • Devices are enrolled in Intune and configured for management.

Important info

The information in this box will be used to populate extension field details in the process below, for Edge browsers we’ll use the same extension details as for Google

Google extension’s unique identifier (ID) is oacmceopmfdocmdacobjhimnkhaehdfo

Steps to Deploy an Extension via Intune

Step 1: Configure Google Chrome and/or Edge Policies in Intune

  • Navigate to Devices Configuration.

  • Click Create profile.

  • Choose the following options:

    • Platform: Windows 10 and later

    • Profile type: Settings catalog

  • Click Create.

MacOS

In case you want to push this setting to macOS devices, you should use macOS as a platform in Step 4 above.

Step 2: Basics

  • Select the Name field

  • Choose a name for the extensions as per your preference, it could be Insightful Browser Extension

  • Click Next

Step 3: Configuration settings

Depending on which browser you want to deploy, follow the related articles for Google or for Edge, or follow each step if you want to deploy to both browsers

Step 3.1: Google Chrome settings

  • Go to Add Settings.

  • Type in the search “extension”

  • Find and expand Google Google Chrome Extensions.

  • Check the Settings called Configure the list of force-installed apps and extensions

As there is a particular format we need to follow, please copy it from here for later use.

The image is attached as an example.

  • Search for Configure the list of force-installed apps and extensions.

  • Click Enable.

  • Paste the example format we got before

Replace <extension_id> with the actual extension ID. It should look similar to this ["oacmceopmfdocmdacobjhimnkhaehdfo;https://clients2.google.com/service/update2/crx"]

Step 3.2: Microsoft Edge settings

  • Go to Add Settings.

  • Type in the search “extension”

  • Find and expand Microsoft Edge Extensions.

  • Check the Settings called Configure the list of force-installed apps and extensions

  • Copy/paste the same extension used for Google Browsers

  • It should look similar to this

    ["oacmceopmfdocmdacobjhimnkhaehdfo;https://clients2.google.com/service/update2/crx"]

  • Click Next

Step 4: Assign the Policy to Devices

  • Navigate to Assignments in the profile.

  • Click Add Groups and select the appropriate group of devices or users.

  • Click Review + Save to apply the policy.

Step 5: Monitor Deployment

  • Go to Devices Monitor Device configuration.

  • Verify that the policy is successfully applied.

  • Check on a target device by opening Chrome and navigating to chrome://extensions or edge://extensions to confirm that the extension is installed, it should look similar to the image below.

Troubleshooting

  • Ensure that the devices are properly enrolled in Intune and receiving policies.

  • Verify that Google Chrome and/or Microsoft Edge are installed on the devices.

  • Check for errors in Intune under Devices → Monitor → Configuration Profile status.

  • Confirm that the extension ID and update URL are correct.
