Org groups, short for organizational groups, offer Insightful users greater flexibility in structuring their employees and teams. This feature enables organizations to map internal departments or create groupings for cross-functional teams, for instance.
There are no limits on how many teams or employees can belong to an org group, and both employees and teams can be members of multiple org groups at the same time.
A key distinction from teams is that an employee can belong to multiple org groups simultaneously, whereas they can only be a member of one team.
This feature is available in all billing plans.
Accessibility & Permissions
Only Admins can create, update, and delete org groups. Admins can also view and filter all org groups that exist within the organization.
Managers have access only to the org groups that are added to their scope. They can view and filter data related to those groups but cannot manage org groups themselves.
Employees do not manage org groups and are included only as members.
Manage Org Groups
The Manage Org Groups tab is available only to Admins and is used to manage all org groups in one place.
This tab displays a list of all org groups within the organization.
Groups can be sorted by:
name
creation date
creator
last update
Admins can see which managers have an organizational group in their scope by hovering over the group or by opening it in edit mode. In the edit view, the Scope section also shows how many teams and employees are included in the group.
Creating, Editing, and Deleting Org Groups
Organizational groups can be created, edited, and deleted only by Admins and only from the User Management settings page.
Employees can be added to an org group either through a team or as individual members.
.Org group name must be unique and cannot match an existing team name. When creating an org group, the name and the scope (which must include at least one team or employee) are the only mandatory fields. Note that the org group name must be unique and cannot duplicate an existing team name.
An employee may belong to an org group both as part of a team and as an individual. Removing the employee from one does not remove them from the org group as long as they remain in the other.
Descriptions and assigning the group to managers’ scopes are optional. After creation, Admins can edit or delete an org group using the three-dot menu.
There are no limits on how many teams or employees can be included in an org group.
Scope and Data Visibility
Adding an org group to a manager’s scope grants visibility over all employees and teams within that group.
This visibility includes historical data for employees, meaning managers can see data from the moment an employee was created and started generating activity. This differs from team-based access, where data is available only from the time the team was created.
The same org group can be added to the scope of an unlimited number of managers.
Manager Permissions Within Org Groups
Managers can view all employees and teams within org groups that are part of their scope. However, editing capabilities depend on assigned permissions.
To edit employees under an org group scope, the Manage Employees permission is required.
To edit or delete teams under an org group scope, the Manage Teams permission is required.
When creating or editing a manager, Admins can add org groups directly in the Add Scope section, same as for Teams or Employees.
Filtering report pages with Org Groups
If at least one org group exists, Admins will see the org group filter on reporting pages. Managers must have at least one org group assigned to their scope to access this filter.
Org Groups filter the following report pages:
Productivity Trends
Timesheets
Attendance
Schedules
Activities
Alert Logs
Screenshots
Screen Recordings
Work Type (category and tags)
Schedule Adherence
Apps and Website
Location Insights
Quality Management
Org Groups on Employee and Team Pages
On the Team page, Admins can see which org groups the team belongs to, as well as all managers who have that team in their scope.
On the Employee page, Admins can see which org groups the employee belongs to and all managers who have that employee in their scope.
Managers see the same information, but only for organizational groups that are within their assigned scope.
