Inactivity dialogs are designed to help keep track of time, focus on priorities and maintain optimal productivity levels by prompting users, after a certain amount of inactive time has been detected while Insightful is running, and offering them to select the reason for inactivity and thus account for their time.

When these dialogs are prompted can be different depending on the Attendance tracking scenario selected for an organization and permissions set for users.

Users with an Automatic attendance tracking scenario might encounter a few different inactivity dialogs. Here are the possible scenarios:

When break time is allowed

User exceeds the allowed break time and is inactive for less than 20 minutes

In the situation where break overage is enabled, the user will be prompted to either end the break or continue it.

Choosing each button will do the following:

  • Continue the break - regular break time will be added + the overage

  • Stop the break - regular break + break overage until stopped

If break time overage is disabled, the break is stopped at the scheduled break time end, and all overage will be added as idle time.

User is inactive for 20 minutes or more

If a user is inactive for more than 20 minutes, their device remained awake and they haven't activated any break time during that period, the following dialog box will appear when the user becomes active again:

The action taken by the user to the dialog will determine how time is categorized:

I was on a break

  • Regular break time exceeded + break overage enabled: regular break + overage

  • Regular break time remaining: Total inactive time will be categorized as regular break

  • Break overage enabled + allow new breaks after break time is exceeded is enabled + no regular break left: Break overage will be added for the entire inactivity time

  • Break overage disabled some break time remaining: Regular break + idle time for the rest of the inactive time

If the “I was on the break” button is not visible, this is an indication that there are no regular breaks available or the break overage option is disabled.

Yes, I was working offline - Inactive time will be added as idle time.

If Manual Time permissions are granted, a user can add Manual time through the dashboard.

No, I wasn’t - Inactive time will be added as idle time.

This dialog will NOT appear only if the user has an automatic tracking scenario and Manual Time can't be added, there is NO break time left, and no multiple overages are allowed. In this particular case, all the inactive time will be added as idle, and there will be no dialog to interact with.

User exceeds break

When the break overage is enabled, the inactivity dialog opens once the user becomes active again:

This dialog opens ONLY if the user has permission to add Manual Time.

The action taken by the user to the dialog will determine how time is categorized:

  • I was on the break → new dialog box opens:

  • Continue with the break - continue with the break (regular + break overage will be added)

  • No, stop the break - regular break time + break overage until stopped

  • I was working offline - Break Overage Dialog opens:

- Continue the break - continue with the break (regular break time + break overage will be added)

- No, stop the break - regular break time + break overage until stopped

Break overage is disabled

No dialog box will appear. Reporting will show regular break + the rest of inactivity time = idle time.

User is inactive beyond the shift threshold

After the shift threshold has been reached Insightful will automatically clock out.

If there was an active break:

Break overage enabled

If the user was:

  • Last active while on regular break, the shift will end when the regular break expires (reporting will show no overage and no idle time after the regular break).

  • Last active during break overage, the shift will end with the last detected activity (reporting will show the entire allowed break + break overage up until the last computer activity - no additional overage or idle time will be reported).

Break overage disabled

The shift will end when the regular break expires.
