Summary

Custom Time Off Types let administrators define and manage their own time off types in Insightful. In addition to the standard set of time off types, you have the ability to add multiple custom types. These time off entries can capture the specific reasons employees are away and reflect how your organization actually operates, while being factored into other analysis using Insightful data.

What is Custom Time Off Types?

Custom Time Off Types is a Workforce Analytics capability that lets administrators create time-off types beyond Insightful's standard, system-defined options. A time-off type is the label applied to a time off entry, for example Vacation or Sick Leave. With this release, administrators can add their own types, such as Parental Leave or Bereavement, and managers can apply them when recording time off for employees.

Why it matters

A fixed list of time-off types cannot capture every reason an employee is away, which makes time off data less precise and utilization rates harder to trust. By letting each organization define the types that match its own policies, Insightful records time off more accurately and gives managers a clearer, more dependable view of who is working and who is not. This supports Insightful's role as an early warning system for workforce performance, helping leaders understand work rather than simply monitor it.

Who is it for?

This release is for administrators who configure time and attendance policies and want the platform to mirror their organization's leave categories. It is also for managers who record and review time off for their teams and need accurate, recognizable type labels.

What you can do with it

  • Create custom time-off types that match your organization's leave policies.

  • Edit and remove the custom types you have created as policies change.

  • Keep Insightful's standard types, including Vacation, Sick Leave, Public Holiday, Unauthorized Leave, and Other leave, alongside your own.

  • Apply custom types when adding time off, with filtering that includes your custom types.

  • Record more precise time off so utilization and attendance reflect real working time.

How to access it

  1. Sign in as an administrator.

  2. Open Settings and go to the Time and Attendance area, then the Manual Time and Time Off settings.

  3. Create a custom time-off type, give it a name, and assign it to one of the standard categories.

  4. Save. The new type becomes available to administrators and managers in the Add Time Off menu and in Time Off filters.
